As punishment, she was afflicted with pockmarks, leading her husband to reject her. She became known as âMariâ, meaning âchangedâ. Today, it is known as a sacred site by both Vietnamese and Chinese. Saigon's Mariamman Hindu Temple has a colourful facade and inside, the atmosphere is lively, mysterious and sacred with a powerful smell of incense hanging in the air. In the middle of the temple is the altar of the statue of the Deity Mariamman.

The exact name of this place is Thien Hau Mieu, which translated into Vietnamese means, altar to worship Thien Hau. A legend says Ms. Thien Hau - a woman in the tenth century capable of foreseeing the future, saving people in need. Her ability was discovered while her father and two brothers were carrying salt to the trade during a big storm, she miraculously tried to save her father and two brothers, but unfortunately her father was swept away by the waves, saving only two brothers. Since then, every time people in distress at sea bow to her and set up her own altar.

Cu Chi Tunnels are known as "the city under the earth" with a system of tunnels like a maze and were built so deep underground, military tanks could pass overhead without causing any damage to the tunnels. Jade Emperor Pagoda also known as Turtle Pagoda, is a sacred temple and one of the five most important temples in Ho Chi Minh City. In the middle of the temple is a fish tank and to the right is a turtle tank. Every tank is full of fish and turtles and they were released by people who came to pray.
